Bio

Hi everyone!

My name is Nadia, and I am a PhD researcher at the Institute for Environmental Studies, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. My PhD revolves around better understanding tropical cyclone risk and how this changes under climate change. This way, we can help communities become more resilient, hereby reducing impacts and saving more lives!

At the heart of my PhD lies the STORM model — this is the fully statistical model we built to simulate 10.000 years of tropical cyclone activity. You can find the STORM datasets on the 4TU data repository!

My background lies in mathematics and meteorology: I’ve had a big passion for extreme weather ever since I was 10! Whenever I’m not fantasizing about chasing tornadoes and tropical cyclones, I like to crochet or cuddle with my guinea pigs Magnus and Nino (not on mutual agreement :-))
