Software Engineer (Open Source) – 4TU.ResearchData, TU Delft

Help shape the future of open sci­ence by devel­op­ing open source soft­ware that improves the trans­paren­cy, repro­ducibil­i­ty, and reusabil­i­ty of research. As a Soft­ware Engi­neer at 4TU.ResearchData, you’ll play a key role in enhanc­ing Dje­huty, the orga­ni­za­tion’s open source repos­i­to­ry plat­form for research data and soft­ware. You’ll con­tribute to nation­al ini­tia­tives focused on FAIR research prac­tices, AI/ML repro­ducibil­i­ty, and the Research Soft­ware Direc­to­ry, help­ing researchers share, val­i­date, and pre­serve their soft­ware and data more effec­tive­ly.

Work­ing from the TU Delft Library, you’ll col­lab­o­rate with soft­ware engi­neers, research sup­port pro­fes­sion­als, and aca­d­e­m­ic part­ners from uni­ver­si­ties and research insti­tutes across the Nether­lands. Your respon­si­bil­i­ties include design­ing and imple­ment­ing new fea­tures, improv­ing repos­i­to­ry work­flows, main­tain­ing exist­ing infra­struc­ture, coor­di­nat­ing devel­op­ment activ­i­ties, and con­tribut­ing to doc­u­men­ta­tion and the wider open source com­mu­ni­ty. The role com­bines tech­ni­cal soft­ware engi­neer­ing with mean­ing­ful col­lab­o­ra­tion in a research-dri­ven envi­ron­ment.

This posi­tion is well suit­ed to a soft­ware engi­neer with strong Python skills, expe­ri­ence in Lin­ux, Git, and mod­ern web tech­nolo­gies, and an inter­est in open source devel­op­ment and sci­en­tif­ic research. Expe­ri­ence with research soft­ware, AI/ML work­flows, or FAIR data prin­ci­ples is an advan­tage. If you’re look­ing to build soft­ware that sup­ports researchers world­wide and con­tributes to more open and repro­ducible sci­ence, this is an oppor­tu­ni­ty to make a real impact.
