Software Engineer (Open Source) – 4TU.ResearchData, TU Delft
Help shape the future of open science by developing open source software that improves the transparency, reproducibility, and reusability of research. As a Software Engineer at 4TU.ResearchData, you’ll play a key role in enhancing Djehuty, the organization’s open source repository platform for research data and software. You’ll contribute to national initiatives focused on FAIR research practices, AI/ML reproducibility, and the Research Software Directory, helping researchers share, validate, and preserve their software and data more effectively.
Working from the TU Delft Library, you’ll collaborate with software engineers, research support professionals, and academic partners from universities and research institutes across the Netherlands. Your responsibilities include designing and implementing new features, improving repository workflows, maintaining existing infrastructure, coordinating development activities, and contributing to documentation and the wider open source community. The role combines technical software engineering with meaningful collaboration in a research-driven environment.
This position is well suited to a software engineer with strong Python skills, experience in Linux, Git, and modern web technologies, and an interest in open source development and scientific research. Experience with research software, AI/ML workflows, or FAIR data principles is an advantage. If you’re looking to build software that supports researchers worldwide and contributes to more open and reproducible science, this is an opportunity to make a real impact.
