4TU.RESEARCHDATA

4TU.ResearchData is a research infrastructure, community and training provider whose mission is to enable researchers from science, engineering and design disciplines to make a global impact with research data and software.

Our main service is a trusted digital repository which supports Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable (FAIR) data and software by offering curation, sharing, long-term access and preservation. The infrastructure on which the repository runs is available as Free and Open Source software, called Djehuty. The name Djehuty is derived from an ancient Egyptian king who is considered the inventor of writing. Our vision is to co-develop this software with our 4TU.ResearchData community of researchers and research support professionals, such as research software engineers and data managers. The codebase is available here.

4TU.ResearchData is led by the 4TU.ResearchData Consortium, which consists of Delft University of Technology, Eindhoven University of Technology, University of Twente and Wageningen University & Research.

4TU.ResearchData is hosted and managed by the TU Delft Library, where datasets are locally stored on TU Delft servers, and is governed by TU Delft’s legal statements. 4TU.ResearchData staff is responsible for managing and maintaining the data repository, including its preservation policy to guarantee long-term usability of the data it holds.

The 4TU.ResearchData consortium is open to organisations that share our mission and are willing to make an active contribution to it. As a member of 4TU.ResearchData:

  • You will take part in Executive Board meetings and Operational Board meetings, which makes you share in the knowledge and influence on the development of our services and the strategy and its implementation by 4TU.ResearchData.
  • You are represented in the cooperations and consultative committees where 4TU.ResearchData engages in.
  • You will receive discounted rates and get access to services that are exclusive to consortium members.

Our Membership Prospectus provides an overview of the different possible service levels and their associated services.
As a 4TU.ResearchData member you are making a contribution to securing access to technical scientific research data through your commitment to the Board and the local front office and with financial support from the shared back- and front office. The rights and obligations of the members are laid down in a Consortium Agreement. Are you interested in a possible 4TU.ResearchData membership or do you have questions about it? Please contact 4TU.ResearchData.

Executive Board

4TU.ResearchData is overseen by the Executive Board, but the 4TU.ResearchData operations are the responsibility of the 4TU.ResearchData Director. The members of the Executive Board are:

Operational Board

Where the Executive Board sets the overall direction and vision for 4TU.ResearchData, the Operational Board is overseeing the operational aspects ensuring that the daily operations align with the strategic goals.

The Operational Board provides review, advice, and feedback on the services and policies of 4TU.ResearchData and meet regularly. See the Terms of Reference here.

CORETRUSTSEAL & TRUST PRINCIPLES

4TU.ResearchData has been awarded the CoreTrustSeal, a certification that promotes sustainable and trustworthy data infrastructures by setting out requirements for trusted data repositories. Read more information about the certification.

4TU.ResearchData has endorsed “The TRUST Principles for digital repositories”. These principles, where ‘TRUST’ is the acronym for Transparency, Responsibility, User Focus, Sustainability, and Technology, offer guidance for maintaining the trustworthiness of digital repositories, especially those responsible for the stewardship of research data. Please find more information here.
