Calling Earth Scientists!
Since Sept 2020, 22 international interdisciplinary domain experts have been working voluntarily towards developing community guidelines for making quality information findable, accessible, interoperable and reusable (The FAIR principles).
Result of this community effort are the ‘Draft: International Community Guidelines for Sharing and Reusing Quality Information of Individual Earth Science Datasets’. This draft document is now open for community review: https://doi.org/10.31219/osf.io/xsu4p.
The co-authors of this draft invite all with an interest in spatial data quality to provide feedback.
Input of spatial data community is essential to include a variety of perspectives and understanding of what spatial data quality means, and how and in what essential amount it should be represented to minimize misunderstanding of spatial data, information, service and products among users.
To provide some context to this effort, you can read the ‘call-to-action’ paper that has recently been published in the CODATA Data Science Journal.

In short, anyone who deals with Earth Science data! We invite experts from science, stewardship, product and service domains.
How to provide feedback?
You can provide your feedback on the draft community guidelines by:
- Using our review template that contains comments received so far together with action taken and observations from the project leaders.
- Completing the form
- Providing your feedback directly to Ivana Ivánová (ivana.ivanova@curtin.edu.au).
Community feedback is important in helping us improve the quality of the document prior to its first baseline. Please feel free to contact Ivana if you have any questions or concerns or if you are interested in developing a use case.
